Math 8: Homework: You will notice that I grade homework daily. The students will receive a 100 if the homework was completed to the best of their ability. A lunch detention is given if the student did not have the homework in class, and the student takes a 20-point deduction. If homework is not received, a 0 will be given. When we average the homework grades, it counts as 15% of the student’s grade. Students will be evaluated on the basis of:
Extra Help: I am available for extra help after school. Please notify us as soon as you see that your child needs extra help!! Tests and quizzes: I try to give a quiz weekly to review the areas taught for the week. When it is test time, each student will have a review sheet that will go home and be signed by a parent/guardian so you are also aware of the test. I will review this sheet with the students in class the day before the test. If they can do the review sheet they will have no problem on the test. I do not like to give a make up test. I feel the students end up relying on the fact that they get another chance to study and do not take the test seriously. Binders: Students will be responsible for keeping an organized binder. This will help the child learn note taking skills as well as the importance of organizing the notes. I am guiding the children on the expectations that we have for the math binder. Parent Communication: Parent Communication is very important to our team. Any phone calls received prior to three o’clock will be returned the same day. You are welcome to contact us at any time with any questions about classroom activities, child’s progress, or just to set up a time to schedule a conference. You may leave a voicemail message at any time. Advanced Math: In advanced math, it is essential that the students maintain a 90 average. I will not push a student on if they are not able to handle the workload. There is no reason a child should come to class unprepared in advanced classes. Sometimes the ability is there, but not the maturity. Please understand we will not keep them in the class if they are not ready. State Testing Click here for the Grade 8 Curriculum Map
